Full Title:
Understanding and Planning for the Socio-Ecological Dimensions of Marine Protected Area Networks in the Philippines and Beyond
Overview:
This project is a collaborative project between the Pew Fellow (and CCEF Board Member) Dr. Patrick Christie and the Coastal Conservation and Education Foundation which focuses on applied socio-ecological research and education for MPA networks. There will be socio-ecological research on three (3) emerging marine protected area networks in the Philippines. This will then translate into educational materials for local and international audiences. A management body of a growing MPA network in the Philippines will be strengthened and will be monitored for socio-ecological impacts and adaptively managed.
Objectives:
The project will establish a functional network of 36 MPAs in the Central Visayas of the Philippines within a EBM framework and foster other networks elsewhere. Research will be conducted and a local and international education program will be established.
