Ecosystem Management Planning Workshop in Siquijor Province

Siquijor Province Ecosystem Management Planning Workshop held last February 2-3, 2023. A 2-day planning workshop which brings forth conversation to discuss issues, threats, challenges, and opportunities for the province of Siquijor. It aims to activate Siquijor’s Networks of MPA, through its SPCRMA. The Workshop is a continuing activity for the SEAS the Future Project’s coastal livelihood and ecotourism components.

The planning workshop was attended by various representatives of different departments. As well as distinguish personalities such as: Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources(BFAR) 7, Department of Environment and Natural Resources(DENR) 7, Siquijor Provincial Local Government Unit, Office of the Governor, Siquijor Provincial Tourism Office, Siquijor Sangguniang Panlalawigan, Siquijor Provincial Planning and Development Office, Philippine Coast Guard-Siquijor, Siquijor Provincial Police Office, Siquijor Chamber of Commerce, Inc., and the LGUs of Siquijor, Larena, San Juan, Maria, Lazi, Enrique Villanueva, CCEF, and WCS.

The Provincial Chief of Staff Atty. Dale Louis Tudtud gave the greeting on behalf of Hon. Jake Vincent S. Villa, stresses its dedication to safeguarding the marine life of Siquijor and calls for collaboration with all six municipal LGUs, the tricolors, and stakeholders to develop measures as a group.

Mr. Auburn Patrick Samson, Executive Director of CCEF, shared the organization’s long partnerships with the coastal communities of Siquijor, as well as its commitment to empowering with science-based information so they can make sound decisions about the island’s vast and rich natural resources. He noted the 22 MPAs constructed in the province, for which CCEF was instrumental in the technical aspects.

Facilitators presented Siquijor through an alignment lens the provincial vision as premier tourism destination by 2033 to the workshop output as a sustainable Island Ecosystem for a clean and Healthy Siquijor.
