CCEF Does MORE for the Mangroves of Biasong, Talisay City

As a longtime partner of Talisay City through its project on Mangrove Management Optimization for Resilient Ecosystems (MORE), the Coastal Conservation and Education Foundation (CCEF) visited the area’s mangrove nursery in Barangay Biasong last July 8, 2022, to install an informative sign that highlights the importance of these coastal systems and what locals and tourists can do to help make a difference.

For the past 3 years, CCEF has been working with the local government unit in Talisay for the purpose of monitoring the growth of the mangrove seedlings which were planted in 2019, in partnership with Lear Corporation.

The mangrove nursery in Barangay Biasong is a crucial ecosystem that serves as a defense and buffer against strong waves and storm surges, as well as provides conditions for the nutrient recycling storage of a vast amount of blue carbon.

With this in mind, the goal to protect the mangroves does not only end with community-based planting.

In addition, efforts must also be made to closely monitor the maintenance and management of these mangroves — and this includes informing passers-by of their role in the protection and conservation of these coastal resources, such as what CCEF has been doing under its Project MORE initiative.
