February 29, 2020—In celebration of World Wetlands Month, CCEF is raising awareness in its initiative on reducing ocean trash. With the support of A Better Ocean, and collaboration with partners from the University of the Visayas-Maritime College and the LGU of Barangay Biasong, Talisay City, CCEF conducted a coastal cleanup in a mangrove area at Barangay Biasong Talisay.
A Better Ocean is a Danish-based initiative whose mission is to remove plastic from the world’s oceans through the help of private businesses and collaboration with different partners. This month, A Better Ocean has chosen CCEF to help in creating cleaner coasts and reducing ocean plastic in Barangay Biasong Talisay.
The cleanup started with opening remarks from the different partners from the University of the Visayas, Barangay Biasong Talisay, and the Sangguniang Kabataan of Biasong. With a total of 98 volunteers participating from the University of the Visayas, Barangay Biasong Talisay, CCEF staff and some individual volunteers, we were able to collect a total of 500 kilos of ocean plastics.
After the cleanup, certificates of participation were awarded to those who joined and committed their time in making our oceans better. Certificates of Appreciation were also awarded to the different partners—University of the Visayas- Maritime College, SK Barangay Biasong and Barangay Biasong Talisay.
