The Coastal Conservation and Education Foundation (CCEF), in collaboration with the Coastline Management Board (CMB) Committee on Community Organizing, Development, Information, and Education (CODIE), successfully organized a 2-day mangrove training for the People’s Organizations from Barangay Inayawan and Barangay Pardo in Cebu City. The training took place at the Annex Building of Inayawan Barangay Hall on August 14 – 15, 2024.
The training aimed to equip participants with technical knowledge and skills in identifying and characterizing mangrove species, understanding mangrove biology/ecology, and selecting appropriate species for rehabilitation. It also aimed to provide participants with techniques and requirements for establishing mangrove nurseries.
The first day featured intensive lectures and discussions covering mangrove biology/ecology, conservation and management, nursery techniques, outplanting, monitoring, protection, maintenance, and rehabilitation planning. The communities were also involved in mangrove rehabilitation planning and the second day focused on the practical application of the acquired knowledge.
The training will help the participants to develop a comprehensive mangrove rehabilitation plan.
