September 27, 2025 | Brgy. Tingo, Olango Island, Cebu – The fourth and final session of the Marine Education (MAREd) Ocean Club culminated in a full-day celebration of youth leadership, ocean literacy, and legacy at Talima National High School and Talima Marine Protected Area.

The day began with Dr. Greg Hodgson’s welcome message, “Talima and the Mike Ross connection!”—a poignant reminder of the enduring impact of Mike Ross’s work in marine conservation and youth empowerment. Peace Corps Volunteer Rachel Davis followed with contest guidelines and T-shirt distribution, setting the stage for the oral presentation contest featuring 30 pre-selected TNHS students.

Judged by a panel of educators and conservationists, the contest showcased the students’ evolving understanding of marine issues and their personal calls to action. After lunch and survey administration by Peace Corps M&E, winners were announced—celebrated not just for eloquence, but for heart.

The afternoon brought immersion in every sense: students traveled to Rainbow Beach Resort, where they rotated between snorkeling at Talima MPA and swimming at the resort pool. For many, it was their first glimpse beneath the surface—a living classroom of coral, fish, and community-managed protection.
As the sun set, the Ocean Club closed not with an ending, but with a beginning. These students are now part of a growing wave of youth ocean stewards—ready to speak, act, and lead.

Thank you to all facilitators, teachers, Peace Corps volunteers, and community partners who made this journey possible. Together, we’ve honored the past and ignited the future.
Ocean Club 2025: Completed. Impact: Just Beginning.
