Ocean Awareness Starts Young: IEC Campaign in Minalulan Elementary School

July 7, 2025, Brgy. Minalulan, Maria, Siquijor – As part of the community outreach efforts under the rrreefs’ Artifical Clay Reef project, CCEF, conducted an Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) campaign at Minalulan Elementary School.

The campaign centered on a storytelling session featuring the original children’s book “Discovering the Wonders Beneath the Waves: A Kid’s Journey into the Ocean World and Artificial Reef,” written by Dionel Molina. A total of 82 Grade 1 to 3 students participated.

Led by CCEF’s Dionel Molina and rrreefs’ Hanna Kuhfuss, the session aimed to introduce young learners to the world beneath the waves, highlighting the beauty of coral reefs, the threats they face, and how artificial reefs like the ACR can help in their recovery.

To reinforce the lessons, children were encouraged to reflect through simple drawing and sharing activities. Each student received a copy of the illustrated book to take home, extending the learning experience beyond the classroom.

This initiative not only raised environmental awareness at the grassroots level but also sowed the seeds for long-term stewardship by making reef conservation relatable, fun, and age-appropriate for young minds.
