September 25, 2024, Bogo, Cebu City – The Coastal Conservation and Education Foundation, Inc. (CCEF) actively participated in the 3rd Quarter Management Board Meeting for Fisheries Management Area 10 (FMA 10), held to discuss and drive forward the region’s sustainable fisheries management initiatives. The meeting served as a platform for key stakeholders to collaborate on the future of fisheries governance and conservation in the region, which spans the Bohol Sea and surrounding waters.
The agenda for the meeting focused on crucial topics shaping the strategic direction of FMA 10. One of the highlights was the presentation of the Framework Plan for FMA 10, which outlined the long-term vision and management actions for fisheries in the area.
Another key item on the agenda was the selection of new Management Board members, a critical process to ensure that the decision-making body is representative of the various sectors involved in fisheries management, including government agencies, local communities, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
Additionally, the meeting delved into the presentation of Management Actions for Harvest Control Rules (HCRs), focusing on the regulation of fish stocks and ensuring sustainable fishing practices in the FMA 10 area. These HCRs aim to balance the economic benefits of fisheries with the need to conserve marine resources for future generations.
In a significant development, CCEF was formally invited to become a member of the FMA 10 Management Board, representing the NGO sector. By joining the board, CCEF will bring its expertise in coastal resource management, conservation communication, and community engagement to help guide policies and actions that support the sustainable use of fisheries resources in FMA 10.
As a newly appointed member of the FMA 10 Management Board, CCEF is committed to working alongside government agencies, local communities, and other stakeholders to ensure that marine and coastal resources are managed effectively and equitably.
