September 26, 2024, Clarin, Bohol – The Bohol Danajon Bank Double Barrier Reef Management Council (BDBDBRMC), chaired by Hon. Dave Duallo (LGU Buenavista), recently convened for its quarterly meeting. Key participants included Hon. Eugenio Ibarra (LGU Clarin) and Forester Edgar Ricafort (DENR CENRO Talibon). Representatives from essential organizations, such as the Bohol Provincial Environment Management Office (BPEMO), DENR 7 Central Visayas, and faculty from Bohol Island State University – Candijay and Clarin campuses, also attended. Additionally, several municipal agriculturists and environmental officers from local government units were present, all coming together to exchange insights and promote vital conservation initiatives for the protection of the Danajon Bank.
During the meeting, the council discussed a proposed joint activity for the BDBDBRMC seaborne patrol to enhance marine law enforcement and combat illegal fishing within the Danajon Bank. The results of the outer barrier reef monitoring were presented, providing crucial insights into the reef’s current state and reinforcing the need for sustained protection. Updates on the Protect Danajon Project also highlighted ongoing efforts to preserve the reef’s rich biodiversity. Additionally, the council was introduced to the new PRISM PH project, which will use IPCC and NASA data to create sea level rise inundation maps, supporting local adaptation planning.
One key development was the presentation of CCEF’s proposed Danajon Audio-Visual Presentation (AVP) and the Communication, Education, and Public Awareness (CEPA) Board, which have been officially adopted through a filed resolution. These tools will play a vital role in raising public awareness and engaging local communities in the protection of the Danajon Bank Double Barrier Reef.
