September 16–18 | Argao, Cebu
CCEF, with support from the Unico Conservation Foundation through the Promoting Community-based Ecotourism in MPA & Mangrove Areas (ProComTour Project), led a three-day destination planning workshop to revitalize two ecotourism sites in southern Cebu: the Sombria River Cruise and Trekking Adventure in Argao and the Nonoc Polpog Winding Stream Adventure in Alcoy.

Facilitated by Ms. Evelyn T. Deguit, the workshop convened 30 participants from local government units and people’s organizations to explore ecotourism fundamentals, develop itineraries, and map out strategies for site operations, marketing, and stakeholder engagement. The planning process emphasized biodiversity conservation, community empowerment, and immersive visitor experiences.

Sombria is co-managed by two people’s organizations—NAGMATA (Nagkahiusang Mananagat sa Taloot Cebu) and Tawog Pagatpat Service Cooperative—each of which developed its own destination plan for the site. Tawog Pagatpat also crafted a separate plan for the Tawog Pagatpatan Hidden Resort.
In Alcoy, the Sta. Cruz–Daanlungsod Fishermen’s Association contributed to the LGU’s municipal-wide destination plan, which includes the Nonoc Polpog Winding Stream Adventure. This marks a strategic step toward revitalizing Nonoc Polpog as a nature-based tourism site that complements Alcoy’s broader conservation and development goals.
All destination plans will be integrated into the tourism development strategies of their respective LGUs, ensuring alignment with long-term sustainability goals.

At its core, destination plans are designed not just to attract visitors—but to sustain a system where ecological integrity and community well-being reinforce one another. By aligning conservation goals with inclusive economic opportunities, the initiative empowers local stewards to protect the very resources that sustain their livelihoods.
