Bacon Marine Reserve

Personnel from the DENR-ERDS and DA-BFAR was requested by Mayor Leovic R. Dioneda to conduct an underwater ocular inspection of the most recommended site for marine reserve. Last December 4-6, 1998 the team from the two agencies headed by Engr. Jose Roco Jr. conducted an underwater ocular inspection and based on the initial report Barangay San Juan is highly recommended due to variuos factors to be considered. Based on this recommendation, the LGU of Bacon immediately conducted a seminar on Hog Dispersal last December 10, 1998, in which the participants were the marginal fishermen from Barangay San Juan who will be directly affected by the implementation of the proposed project. In order to be supported and accepted by the community, an Information Campaign for the establishment of Marine Reserve was jointly conducted by the personnel from DA-BFAR, DENR and LGU Bacon to the 18 coastal barangays from February 9 to March 9, 1999. Then, on May 5, 1999, thru the assisstance from the Philippine Coastguard, DENR, DA-BFAR and some local divers in Sorsogon, the Local Government Unit of Bacon successfully launched the establishment of Bacon Marine Reserve.
