From Ships to Shores: Berge Bulk seafarers and families partner with CCEF to strengthen Cordova’s mangroves

March 28, 2026 | Brgy. Day‑as, Cordova, Cebu

CCEF, in partnership with the LGU Cordova Tourism Office led by Ms. Aida P. Jumao‑as and the Barangay Council of Day‑as headed by Hon. Wilfredo Tirol, welcomed Berge Bulk seafarers and their families for an environmental volunteering engagement at the Mangrove Propagation and Information Center (MPIC).

Berge Bulk is one of the world’s leading independent dry bulk shipping companies, operating a fleet that moves essential commodities across the globe. Their seafarers play a vital role in sustaining economies, ensuring the transport of food, energy, and raw materials that fuel industries and livelihoods. By extending their commitment beyond the seas into coastal conservation, Berge Bulk demonstrates how corporate responsibility can bridge global commerce with local sustainability.

The activity drew 78 participants (58 adults and 20 children), underscoring the importance of involving families in conservation. When parents and children engage together, bonds are strengthened, values are passed on, and stewardship becomes rooted in the home. Children, our leaders of tomorrow, were immersed in interactive IEC sessions and games, learning firsthand why mangroves matter. This not only nurtures ecological awareness but also ensures that the next generation grows up with conservation as part of their identity.

Together, participants removed 191.4 kg of waste from the shoreline and prepared 150 mangrove propagules (Ceriops tangal, Rhizophora mucronata, Rhizophora stylosa) for rehabilitation. Beyond the numbers, the day fostered:

  • Family unity through shared conservation work.
  • Youth empowerment by engaging children in marine education.
  • Seafarer pride as they contributed not only to global trade but also to protecting the very ecosystems that sustain coastal communities.

This initiative sparked a formal interest from Berge Bulk to integrate CCEF into their corporate charity program, empowering seafarers to select beneficiaries for sustained support. It is a promising step toward a long‑term partnership that aligns economic strength with ecological resilience.

Project SEAS proves that conservation thrives when corporate partners, communities, and families unite. Mangroves protect shorelines, sustain fisheries, and store carbon, making them vital in the fight against climate change. We invite organizations, businesses, and communities to partner with CCEF in safeguarding these ecosystems. Together, we can transform environmental stewardship into a shared legacy of resilience, sustainability, and hope for future generations.
