July 4, 2025, Brgy. Cotcot, Liloan, Cebu – Full Scale reaffirmed its commitment to environmental stewardship through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, Project FULL REST (Frontline Undertaking for Littoral Landscape Restoration and Environmental Sustainability Transformation). In partnership with the Coastal Conservation and Education Foundation (CCEF), the company spearheaded a Mangrove Growing and Coastal Cleanup activity in Purok Bakhaw, Barangay Cotcot, Liloan, Cebu.

The activity gathered 50 Full Scale employees, 4 People’s Organizations from the Purok Bakhaw Women’s Association, 3 CCEF marine biology interns, 1 graduate volunteer from USC-Biology, and 7 CCEF staff—working hand in hand for the protection and rehabilitation of coastal ecosystems.

A total of 800 mangrove seedlings were planted—future natural buffers against storm surges and nurseries for marine life—while the cleanup removed ≈ 179 kg of shoreline waste: textiles (48.0 kg), rubber (28.9 kg), glass (43.7 kg), plastics (53.0 kg), metals (3.0 kg), personal hygiene items (2.0 kg), plus e-waste (15 g) and medical waste (15 g).

Monitoring is critical in mangrove restoration. Seedlings are most vulnerable in their early years to tides, pests, and human disturbance. Regular checks ensure survival, allow quick replanting where needed, and provide data on growth and health. Without monitoring, even well-planned planting efforts risk failure. To secure long-term success, the Purok Bakhaw Women’s Association will take the lead in monthly monitoring, while CCEF will provide quarterly assessments and technical support.

By having the opportunity to plant mangroves, participants were reminded that the simple actions they take today will grow into lasting protection for tomorrow. The activity reinforced how mangroves safeguard coastlines, nurture fisheries, and sustain clean waters—empowering communities to see themselves not merely as beneficiaries, but as stewards of a resilient coastal ecosystem for generations to come.
