Securing the coasts in Brgy Biasong Talisay

September 22, 2019— A total of 87 participants from QIMA and 9 staff participated in a large cleanup drive during the International Coastal Cleanup Day in Brgy. Biasong, Talisay, Cebu.

The International Coastal Cleanup Day is celebrated in different parts of the globe, as a movement to help preserve the cleanliness of our oceans and coastal resources.

Presidential Proclamation No. 470 declares every third Sunday of September of the year as the International Coastal Clean-Up (ICC) Day in observance of the Global Coastal Clean-up celebrations. The International Coastal Cleanup Day is considered as one of the largest volunteer effort to conserve the oceans.

The cleanup started with opening remarks from Mr. Vincent Denef, General Manager of QIMA, Mr. Auburn Patrick Samson-CCEF Executive Director and Mr. Reynaldo Bas., Brgy Captain of Biasong Talisay.

Afterward, participants lined up in groups to collect trash from their designated areas. Composed of only 8 groups and 87 participants, the cleanup was able to collect 50 sacks of garbage or around 5,000 kilos of trash.

After the cleanup, the groups were awarded according to the largest trash collected, most numerous trash collected and weirdest trash collected. Group 1 won the largest trash collected, having collected an inflatable swimming pool, Group 7 won the most numerous trash collected 7 sacks of trash and 127 pieces of plastic. Weirdest trash was awarded to Group 6, having collected a broken toilet bowl and a large car hood.

CCEF also awarded QIMA for their dedication and support on cleaning the coasts in Brgy. Biasong Talisay.
