Nov 27, 2021—-The Municipality of Oslob organized a multi-sectoral underwater and coastal cleanup together with partners from the Coastal Conservation and Education Foundation (CCEF), the Philippine National Police-Oslob, Cebu City Maritime Police-Region 7, Bureau of Fire Protection thte Philippine Coastguard-Alcoy, Samboan, Oslob and alumni from the Science High school Batch 1996.
The Opening Remarks started with a message from Proceso Bomediano, Oslob Municipal Agricultural Officer followed by a welcoming message from Con. Dodgie O. Abines, SB Committee on Agriculture Oslob and Leoncio Benologa, Barangay Captain of Looc, Oslob.
Afterwards, participants were asked to group themselves to conduct a cleanup in Barangay Looc and Looc-Bonbon Shoal. The Science High Batch 1996 donated 50 boxes of disposable masks for Barangay Looc for the activity.
After the cleanup, the participants were able to collect 28 sacks of plastic trash most composed of plastic bottles and sachets and 1 sack of plastic trash from discarded fishing nets and fishing lines. Divers were also able to remove 53 Crown of Thorn Starfish, a known predator of corals in Looc-Bonbon Shoal.
