June 11, 2025, Oslob, Cebu – In a continued effort to support science-based marine protected area (MPA) management, the Coastal Conservation and Education Foundation (CCEF) conducted another round of Marine Protected Area Management Effectiveness Assessment Tool (MEAT) evaluations, this time for ten MPAs in the southeastern Cebu municipalities of Boljoon, Oslob, Santander, and Samboan.

Held at the Oslob Social Hall, the assessment brought together local stakeholders to analyze the performance of their MPAs using MEAT, a tool that highlights governance, community engagement, financing, enforcement, and more. The MEAT process supports adaptive management and helps LGUs identify clear priorities for improvement based on their current status.

Here are the recorded MEAT scores:
Boljoon:
- Arbor – 73
- Granada – 73
Oslob:
- Gawi – 59
- Poblacion – 57
- Tanawan – 59
- Bangcogon – 60
- Sumilon – 63
Santander:
- Pasil – 59
Samboan:

These scores serve as a benchmark to inform more responsive MPA planning and targeted interventions across the region.

This activity was carried out through the Networking MPAs through Coastal LGU Alliance Project (NMCLAP) with generous support from the Unico Conservation Foundation, reaffirming CCEF’s commitment to helping local governments protect marine ecosystems through data-driven coastal resource management.
